Brett Singer leads the Indoor Environment Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and conducts research to improve understanding of air pollutant emissions, controls, and physical-chemical processes that impact exposures. His work characterizing sorption of organic gases from tobacco brought attention to the importance of surface materials on IAQ and helped start research into thirdhand tobacco smoke exposures. Brett has studied pollutant exposures from materials, cleaning products, combustion appliances. He now focuses on how to synergistically improve IAQ and energy performance, with special attention to ventilation, air cleaning, and air quality monitoring in smart home applications. Brett earned a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also amazed every year at the commitment, creativity and impact of the Weatherization and home performance contractors who are rebuilding our housing stock.
