Uncontrolled moisture is not only detrimental to the house but also can have a huge effect on the occupants. Controlling moisture that infiltrates the house from the outside and the moisture generated inside the home is critical. It is often one of the most significant impacts that can be made to truly achieve a comfortable, healthy, and energy-efficient home. This presentation will address the moisture control strategies, including the envelope, mechanical ventilation, and supplemental dehumidification. We will discuss why traditional methods no longer effectively meet the new moisture demands and the building science perspective on the challenges that home performance contractors now must learn to deal with effectively.
By attending this session, attendees will:
Understand the most common sources of humidity in houses, as well as some uncommon ones
Be able to recommend the most effective ventilation strategies for the different climate zones
Know why traditional moisture control strategies are no longer acceptable and will result in uncomfortable, unhealthy and potential unsafe homes
