This session will describe the procedures for diagnosing and correcting insulation, radiant warming, and air leakage problems in attics and cathedral roof slopes. An overview of the related ventilation issues is included. Pros and cons of vented and unvented designs are covered as methods for preventing problems in new construction, or as a method of remediating problems by changing from one strategy to the other. Diagnostic methods and how to prioritize remediation work to maximize return on investment is addressed in several case studies. The implications of the problems addressed in this program should also be applied to new buildings.
By attending this session, attendees will:
Be able to diagnose insulation and air leakage problems in attics and cathedral roof slopes
Be able to verify performance improvements using the same tools and methods that they use for diagnostics
Be able to select from a number of options for creating high-performance attics and cathedral roof slopes, and making cost-effective repairs to problematic existing attics and cathedral roof slope installations
