Each year our Sterile Compounding Clinic includes a hands-on training component in a mock clean room environment within our Expo Hall. Attendees will rotate through a simulated lab environment staffed with expert instructors to demonstrate hand hygiene, donning and doffing hazardous and non-hazardous grab, performing hazardous and non-hazardous aseptic transfers, media fill testing procedures, use of closed-system transfer devices, cleaning and disinfecting the PEC, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials, conducting smoke studies, and much more. The lab offers a unique opportunity to work within several types of primary engineering controls so attendees can gain experience with compounding practices.
Lab Stations: 1. Hand Hygiene and Non-Hazardous Garbing - Demonstrate antiseptic handwashing, donning and doffing cleanroom garb Sponsored By Baxter 2. Gloved Fingertip and Thumb Testing - Demonstrate donning sterile gloves and performing gloved fingertip and thumb testing. 3. Basic Aseptic Technique and Media Fill Testing - Demonstrate aseptic transfers and a media fill challenge test to demonstrate understanding of working in laminar and vertical flow primary engineering controls. 4. Advanced Aseptic Technique Practices - Demonstrate common aseptic manipulations from reconstitution (both manual and repeater pump) and transfer to final dosage form (syringe, bag, etc) 5. Compounding Parenteral Nutrition - Demonstrate proper automated compounding device (ACD) set up and use. Sponsored by B Braun 6. Smoke Pattern Testing and Viable Air & Surface Sampling - Demonstrate proper observation and evaluation of a smoke pattern test. In addition, will demonstrate proper air and surface sampling. Sponsored by Contec 7. Cleaning Techniques for the PEC and SEC - Demonstrate how to properly perform cleaning tasks in the PEC's and also discuss the proper cleaning mechanisms for the SEC's. 8. Hazardous Drug Garbing - Demonstrate the proper donning and doffing of hazardous drug personnel protective equipment (PPE) Sponsored by McKesson Medical - Surgical 9. Hazardous Drug Aseptic Technique Practices - Demonstrate proper aseptic technique when compounding hazardous drugs, including CSTD's. Sponsored by McKesson Medical - Surgical 10. Hazardous Drug Cleaning Techniques - Demonstrate how to decontaminate, clean, and disinfect the BSC after HD compounding Sponsored by McKesson Medical - Surgical
