Mellissa Laster, M.Ed., Gifted Education, is a Coordinating Teacher for Wake County Public School System in Advance Learning Services. Wake County Public Schools in located in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. She received her Master's degree in Gifted Education in 2012 from Elon University in North Carolina. She is completing her 17th year in gifted education. After working in the same school for 15 years supporting gifted education on a school level as well as serving as a regional lead for WCPSS, she moved to support over 160 gifted educators one of the largest school districts in the United States. Included in the support that she give all WCPSS gifted teacher, she also host a new teacher PLC for new gifted teacher to share her love of gifted education with those teachers that are just entering the field. She truly believes that students should have access to gifted services no matter what their demographic data is. Ms. Laster's work is for equity in gifted education and letting data help with being a talent scout for students that are sometimes overlooked.
