Director, College and Career Readiness
Onslow County Schools, North Carolina
My college and professional journey began in rural western Pennsylvania at Grove City College. There I majored in Psychology and Elementary Education. I spent the first ten years of my educational career teaching elementary school in Jacksonville, NC as part of Onslow County Schools. During that time, I was fortunate to be partnered with teachers and leaders who were passionate about serving all students and families. During this time, I found my passion to learn more about how students learn mathematics, science, and especially how gifted students interact with curricula. This led me to earn Master’s degrees in Elementary Education (UNC Wilmington), Mathematics (East Carolina University), and School Administration (Western Carolina University). I also had the opportunity to earn my NC Gifted License which, in large part, led me to my current work. I left the classroom after ten years to serve as a math and science instructional coach, a grant writer and director, and ultimately my current role allows me to serve all students in their pursuit of college and career readiness. Over the past three years, I have had the chance to complete my Ed.D. under the direction Dr. R. Martin Reardon at East Carolina University. My study focused on the interaction of non-verbal screening assessments, teacher perceptions, and a science-based instructional intervention.
