This session proposes an arts-focused framework for creating Transformative Social Emotional Learning (TSEL) experiences for gifted learners using the Home and Community Connections Model. Participants will experience how the Home and Community Connections Model provides authentic, arts-focused access into TSEL themes of self-awareness and social awareness. This session integrates students’ family and community into artistic exploration to promote cultural sustainability.
Learning Outcomes: As a consequence of this session, participants will be able to:
Create experiences in their own classrooms that use the arts to connect with students’ cultural, linguistic, familial, social, and artistic capital
Articulate the connections that can be made between the National Core Arts Standards and Transformational Social and Emotional Learning themes
Design an arts-focused TSEL learning experiences using the Home and Community Connections Model in their own classrooms
