Short description: This presentation introduces a creative, interactive program that successfully bridges cultures, economic strata, and learning preferences when applied at several school levels. The program goes beyond the normal curriculum without increasing stress and anxiety, fosters social and emotional learning, broadens understanding beyond narrow domains, and contributes to success in higher education by attending to developmental challenges that commonly occur during transitions to new school levels.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Be able to provide a rationale for including social-emotional learning in a gifted program
List several local non-school resources that can enhance the learning of bright middle and high school students
Connect this kind of program to addressing the underrepresentation of culturally and linguistically diverse students in programs for bright kids
