Short description: Educators are challenged with identifying, supporting, teaching, and retaining students with high ability and potential from all groups. Many find it difficult to make the home and community connections needed to develop a strong scholarly identity with marginalized student groups. This session demonstrates the integration of Home and Community Connection (H&CC) prompts within the Scholar Identity Model (SIM).
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn about these two conceptual models
Design curriculum using the SIM and H&CC
Integrate the SIM into their curriculum
Defend the components of the H&CC that need to be included in instruction to combat marginalization
