Short description: Robert Quillen said, “Discussion is an exchange of knowledge, an argument an exchange of ignorance.” Remote learning and online discussions are now a part of most classrooms. To exchange ideas instead of ignorance, teachers of gifted students must scaffold for student success. This session discusses scaffolding for quality exchanges, including providing community standards, scholarly contexts, explicit instruction, and thoughtful questions.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn strategies for establishing community standards, establishing scholarly contexts, providing explicit instruction, and asking thoughtful questions to promote quality online discussions among their students
Examine classroom examples of scaffolds from actual student online discussions
Receive recommendations for resources they can access to facilitate quality online discussions among their gifted learners
