Short description: Gifted and able readers can be found in many places, expected and unexpected. Many face limited reading opportunities within a general education classroom setting and their strengths go unrecognized. This session shares how one after-school program is supporting gifted/able readers, including those not typically found in gifted programs, through the use of virtual reading discussion groups.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Explore virtual reading discussion groups (VRDG)
Examine parent, student, and facilitator responses to the use of VRDG
Identify other venues to use VRDG to support gifted/able readers
