Short description: How do we nurture gifted learners curious about engineering and computer science? Participants learn how to support students beginning with block-based languages and working with cardboard in 4th grade to engineering robotic systems using machine learning in 12th grade. We share challenges and approaches taken in implementing this multi-year curriculum and how to stay abreast of rapidly changing technological developments. While this session is primarily geared to computer science and engineering teachers, administrators and gifted coordinators will also find the material educational.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn how a computer science curriculum can be implemented across grades 4-12 including sample syllabi for each year
Be introduced to a multi-disciplinary capstone course for 11th and 12th grades in artificial intelligence, including a sample syllabus
Gain an appreciation for the challenges of implementing these types of classes and projects, and methods used to address these hurdles
