Short description: Once students leave elementary school, gifted services often solely consist of advanced or accelerated courses. How can we address other critical needs during these vulnerable years? One answer: through a flexible course for secondary students to explore their unique skills and talents while developing interpersonal and intrapersonal skills alongside self-discovery and self-advocacy, using Project Based Learning, Socratic Seminars, and book studies.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Examine a variety of options for incorporating this course into secondary school schedules
Align their current model of service to the 2019 NAGC Gifted Programming Standards, specifically in regards to self-understanding, awareness of needs, personal competence, and program comprehensiveness
