Short description: Many districts adopt Core Reading Programs to bring uniformity and “new” reading practices to teachers. However, we often find that advanced and gifted readers are provided cursory suggestions while teachers are encouraged to continue with whole group instruction, particularly in phonics and fluency activities. We share strategies for supporting differentiation using research and best practices as our guiding lights.
