Short description: Our field is now recognizing past mistakes and examining current obstacles in serving diverse gifted learners. Hear approaches for enfranchising and empowering students who have previously missed participating in gifted programs. The process begins by integrating the needs of diverse gifted learners into every aspect of school, including using universal testing and local norms and incorporating culturally responsive teaching practices.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn to recognize giftedness in diverse students by implementing inclusive identification procedures
Hear strategies to build stakeholder support, including parents, school staff, and district administrators with a goal toward embedding gifted services into existing school structures
Learn to develop a continuum of services in response to students' diverse needs
