Short description: Constructive, positive humor is often the hallmark of a creative, purposeful teacher. A teacher who uses and welcomes humor indicates comfort with content and curiosity, plus an openness that engages students and welcomes divergent thinking and risk-taking. Humor does not require a comedian! This session offers guidelines for modeling and teaching improvisation techniques that spark deep connections in gifted learners.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Learn guidelines for using improvisational techniques in teaching
Hear guidelines and examples for encouraging divergent thinking and teaching improvisation
Receive an annotated bibliography of research on humor in education
