Short description: For decades, researchers and educators have been aware of the inability to (validly and reliably) identify gifted English Language Learners (ELLs) using traditional identification methods. This session presents research observations from several public school districts that are successfully identifying ELLs for gifted services, highlighting the commonalities in the research-based, non-traditional methods used with practical applications for teachers and administrators alike.

Become familiar with the success of various non-traditional methods in identifying gifted ELLs
Explore ways to implement qualitative data collection in the identification process
Gain a better understanding of the commonly-unrecognized traits of gifted ELLs
