Short description: Research demonstrates that gifted students frequently spend their time in school learning previously mastered content. For many teachers, the idea of differentiation seems overwhelming. In this session, participants learn steps to implement curriculum compacting. They get to know specific examples of compacting for a wide range of students and receive resources to get started with their own students.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will:
Understand the steps of curriculum compacting, including what it is, who should have their curriculum compacted, what constitutes mastery, and what to do with the compacted time
Review and discuss real examples of compacting specifically analyzing the nuances of each student’s situation
Gain resources to support compacting in their own classroom
