Paula Alvarez Tames is the Director of International Programs at Ursinus College in southeast Pennsylvania. In addition to her primary role meeting the needs of both incoming and outgoing students, she leads outreach efforts, teaches a pre-departure orientation course, manages data and information, oversees the online application processes and web presence of the Center for International Programs, and participates in site visits. She also advises and oversees immigration document processing for F-1 and J-1 students, J-1 scholars, and H-1B and TN employees. She assists international students in their adjustment to American culture and education by coordinating quality educational and social programming. She is the Secretary of the Council of Spanish Residents in the NY jurisdiction. Prior to working in her current position, she taught at Cabrini College, Rosemont College and Ursinus College as adjunct instructor of Spanish and Italian. Before entering the field of education abroad Paula held positions in Spain (as assistant director of Human Resources at Tabacalera, S.A., as a lawyer at Red Eléctrica, and as a research assistant at Universidad Complutense Law School); in the U.S. (as visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania Law School); and in Brazil (as lecturer at Universidade Federal do Paraná Law School).
Paula received an M.A degree in law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a M.A. in International Marketing from Confederación Empresarial de Madrid. She also has a specialization in Consular and Diplomatic Law from la Universidad La Sapienza di Roma. She is an A.B.D. in International Private Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She is fluent in Spanish, Italian, and French.
