Karen Slaymaker is the Assistant Director for International Student and Scholar Services at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY. In her current position she helps international students make the transition from their home countries to the United States. She leads cross-cultural workshop for students, staff, and faculty to help promote cross-cultural understanding. Ms. Slaymaker advocates for including international students and scholars in the overall plans for the university. Ms. Slaymaker works with international student groups and staff members on campus to plan international events such as the Cultural Diversity Festival. Ms. Slaymaker works with the International Village Living Learning Program and teaches UK 101. Along with the Graduate School Ms. Slaymaker coordinates programs for international graduate students.
Ms. Slaymaker has been an active member in NAFSA: Association of International Educators. She has presented at NAFSA conferences on the topics of cross-cultural understanding, living learning communities, and international student recruitment. She is a past KY state representative for NAFSA.
