Stephen Ferst is currently the executive director of the Center for Global Engagement at the College of Staten Island. Dr. Ferst has been working professionally in international education since 1989 as an adviser, recruiter, resident director, program officer, and office director. Ferst has studied abroad in Israel and lived and worked abroad in the UK. He is a past chair of the EAKC and served as the Annual Conference Chair for the 2013 NAFSA Conference, as Vice-President for Public Policy and as an at-large member of the Board of Directors of NAFSA. He regularly presents at both regional and national conferences on advocacy, program administration and development, student preparation, gender and identity, and sexual assault prevention. He is a recipient of the Lily von Klemperer Award and the 2008 NAFSA Advocate of the Year. Much of his outside work focuses on advocating for international education priorities at the national level. He earned a doctorate from Rutgers University and his area of research is department chair responsibilities and priorities.
