Umberto Capitanio is a full staff urologist at San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Head of the Urological Service of Operative Endoscopy. In 2020, he was appointed as Group Leader of the Kidney Cancer Lab in the same institute. He is Executive Member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) Kidney Cancer Guidelines, Editor-in-chief UROONCO Kidney cancer EAU Educational Platform, Executive Member of the EAU Video Congress Committee, former Chairman of the EAU Young Academic Urologist Kidney Cancer Working Party (EAU YAU).
He has been research fellow at the Cancer prognostics and Health Outcomes Unit of the University of Montreal, Canada. He published more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals (ORCID 0000-0001-9225-1795) which have been cited more than 7,700 times (H-index 53). Over the past 10 years, the scientific activities of Umberto Capitanio were dedicated to the field of kidney cancer, in particular in the settings of Small Renal Masses (SMR), locally advanced and metastatic kidney cancer.
He received many academic prizes, including the John Blandy Award in 2009 and the Italian Crystal Matula in 2020.
