IECA Demonstration Space

Equipment for Experiments in Erosion and Sediment Control

Thursday, February 17th

  • 12:45 - 1:15PM
  • 2:45 - 3:15PM

Friday, February 18th

  • 11:15 - 11:45AM

The IECA trade show floor will include a demonstration of several pieces of equipment used for experiments in erosion and sediment control. The equipment available will include a recirculating flume, river modelling table, and rain fall simulator.

  • The 3-meter long flume is used for performance testing of erosion and sediment control products such as wattles and sediment control logs. This demonstration includes flow measurements of sediment control logs.
  • The 1-meter river modelling table demonstrates how scale models can be used to simulate river processes such as flow, erosion, and sedimentation. This demonstration includes several interactive activities including river meandering, bank stabilization, and erosion around bridge piers.
  • The rain fall simulator is a device used to create rain drops and simulate rainfall processes and is highly adjustable, able to produce a variety of simulated rainfall events. This device is extremely useful when studying the effects of rainfall on soil and other surfaces, as it is not necessary to rely on natural storm events for data collection. This demonstration will include how the simulator is used to create different rainfall events.
