Dr. Hota is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Toronto. She completed her medical training and a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. After joining the University Health Network’s (UHN) Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Department in 2007 she became the Medical Director in 2016. Her academic interests include management of Clostridioides difficile infection, fecal microbiota transplantation, and emergency preparedness for infectious diseases. She is a member of the Ontario Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC-IPC), several Public Health Agency of Canada committees (Canadian Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Task Group, National Advisory Committee – IPAC, Pan-Canadian Advisory Committee for Healthcare Associated Infections), is co-Chair of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program’s Clostridioides difficile Working group and Councilor on the Board of Directors for the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases-Canada. Previously, she was a member of the SHEA Guidelines Committee and Outbreak Response Training Program Advisory Panel. She currently plays pivotal roles in regional pandemic response including IPAC lead for the Ontario Health Toronto Region COVID-19 Hospital Operations Table and the Greater Toronto Area Hospitals COVID-19 Incident Management System. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Hota has been frequently featured on national media as an expert on health systems response to the pandemic.
