Dr. Ulloa completed medical training at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she also earned a Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology. She went on to complete residency at Boston Children’s Hospital/Boston Medical Center. With support from the Pediatric Scientist Development Program, she completed her clinical infectious diseases training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia concurrent with postdoctoral research training in the laboratory of Professor Victor Nizet at UC San Diego. She is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, and a faculty member for the Program in Medical Education for the Latino Community at UC Irvine School of Medicine. She is also an Attending Physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Ulloa’s laboratory examines (A) Drugs that boost the antibacterial killing capacity of host phagocytic cells; (B) Innovative treatment strategies, including drug repurposing, for difficult-to-treat bacterial infections; and (C) Novel antimicrobial susceptibility testing paradigms for drug-resistant bacterial pathogens. Her laboratory is supported by the NIH/NIAID, a Harold Amos Award through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and a UC President’s Award.
