  • Wednesday, October 19, 2022
  • 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM US ET
Satellite Symposium Supported By: Merck & Co., Inc.
Dr. Paul Feuerstadt, Dr. Kevin Garey and Dr. Carolyn Alonso discuss community and healthcare-associated Clostridioides difficile infections (CDI), recent updates to guidelines, CDI risk factors, and evidence-based selection of antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of initial infection and prevention of recurrent CDI. What is the ideal solution? Join us to find out as the faculty discuss patient cases highlighting the risks of recurrence and recommended treatment and prevention strategies.
  • 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM US ET
Satellite Symposium Supported By: ViiV Healthcare
Drug-drug interactions and accumulating toxicities can also often limit treatment options. Key to the successful treatment of these complex patients is providing up-to-date knowledge on how to properly identify them in the clinic, how to treat comorbidities and avoid potential drug-drug interactions. Importantly, novel drugs with new mechanisms of action are now available and are crucial for optional care of this population. Clinicians need to be educated on how to best integrate them and other agents into optimal new combination regiments. The 'Managing HIV Patients with Limited Treatment Options` program aims to meet this educational need.

This will be a candid dialogue on respectful scientific communication, in media & social media. A skilled moderator will explore how different judgments, values, evolving data and uncertainty were considered and communicated during the pandemic. Different perspectives will be considered in the context of where we were in the pandemic at that time.

The opinions expressed by the panelists at this session do not necessarily represent the opinions of IDSA, SHEA, HIVMA, PIDS, SIDP and the IDWeek Program Committee. The mission of IDSA, SHEA, HIVMA, PIDS, SIDP and the IDWeek Program Committee is the equitable and optimal management of infectious diseases.

Immediately following this panel discussion, a performance from the sell-out musical about Scottish Scientist Alexander Fleming, the discovery of antibiotics, the risks of drug-resistant infections and the importance of prudent antibiotic use!

Individual learners earn points for their chosen country by correctly answering questions during each event. After each event is completed, and at the conclusion of the overall symposium, a Team Leader Board appears on the big screens to show comparative scores across teams and a Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal will be awarded to countries for each event and for the entire Clinical OlympicsSM.
