The Law Enforcement Suicide Data Collection (LESDC) was launched by the FBI on January 1, 2022, and collects data on law enforcement suicide attempts or deaths from that date forward, not retroactively. The collection is designed to comprehend the magnitude and characteristics of suicide in law enforcement to provide agencies with the means to understand and mitigate situations that eventually can lead to suicide.
Panel members will share the basics on how and what information will be collected. They will discuss possible challenges and opportunities in obtaining data for law enforcement officer suicide events, along with the expansion of the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program to collect this data from corrections, telecommunications, and legal system demographics.
