This presentation reports results from the Dallas Violent Crime Reduction Plan (Crime Plan) developed in partnership with criminologists from the University of Texas at San Antonio and implemented by the Dallas Police Department and other stakeholders in May 2020. The Crime Plan incorporates proven, research-driven strategies to impact violent crime. In eight months, violent crime and Part I arrests fell by more than 50 percent in the targeted hot spots, overall violent crime fell 14.5 percent city-wide, and homicides were down 12 percent. The presentation will discuss the details of the Crime Plan and the organizational and leadership components critical to its success. It also will discuss the value of working with experienced criminologists and the unique partnership that has developed.
