Fire Chief Jim Schultz holds an Associates Degree in Fire Science and a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Leadership. He is a graduate of the Texas Fire Chiefs Association - Fire Chief Academy, the Texas A&M Fire Service Chief Executive Officers program, and an alumni of the International Association of Fire Chiefs - Fire Service Executive Development Institute. Chief Schultz is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
Chief Schultz joined the Fire Service in June of 1991 as a volunteer firefighter in Edinburg and then became a career firefighter in 1993 with the McAllen Fire Department. He promoted through every rank and was appointed Fire Chief of the McAllen Fire Department in October of 2020, in the height of the pandemic.
Chief Schultz currently serves as a member of the IAFC Professional Development Committee as well as many other state, regional and local committees and boards. His community involvement also includes serving on his Church Council, local Ambulance Advisory Committee, McAllen Firefighters Pension Board and serves as a proud Girl Scout Cookie Dad for his two daughters.
