Session Description: The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate how Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Dance-Movement Therapy (DMT) are utilized within behavioral healthcare settings. This session with explore optimal symptom and diagnostic considerations when utilizing these integrative approaches while also examining presentations that may be contraindicated for these models.
The presentation includes:
- Introduction to SE and DMT and how each of these models may be used to treatment clinical presentations commonly associated with attachment injuries and unresolved trauma responses - Introduction to clinical presentations that may be contraindicated for these modalities - Live demonstration of movement/exercises used with patients in groups and individual sessions to alleviate symptoms and promote trauma and attachment healing - Live demonstrations of resourcing and grounding movements to improve access to the body as a healing resource
Learning Objectives:
After this activity participants should be able to
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify 1-3 clinical presentations that may benefit optimally from utilization of SE or DMT modalities.
Upon completion, participants will be able to define the SIBAM model from Somatic Experiencing. This framework includes orienting patients toward identifying their sensations, images, behaviors, embodied affect states and meanings.
Upon completion, participants will be able to practice 1-3 techniques of DMT to use with patients in individual and group settings.
