Dr Joji Suzuki is the Director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School (HMS). Board certified in Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, his clinical work has consisted largely of providing inpatient addiction consultations in hospitals, but over the course of his career he has launched numerous treatment programs, including a comprehensive outpatient addiction treatment program, and the BWH Bridge Clinic, a low-barrier, low-threshold clinic. He is the inaugural Program Director for the BWH Addiction Medicine Fellowship program, and continues to be very active in medical student, resident, and fellow education. In recognition for his teaching skills, he has received the Excellence in Clinical Instruction and the Outstanding Early Career Educator Award from HMS, the Visiting Professor Award from the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry (ACLP), and served as the Course Director of the Addiction and Their Treatment Course by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP). He has received research funding from BWH, HMS, CDC, and SAMHSA, and is now completing a NIDA K23 Career Development Award to receive mentored training in conducting clinical trials. His overall research efforts are aimed at identifying novel pharmacologic and behavioral interventions for substance use disorders. He is currently conducting trials of recovery coaches, cannabidiol, digital technologies, and ketamine. He is a sought-out speaker both locally and nationally, and currently serves on a variety of committees, workgroups, and taskforces for Mass General Brigham, HMS, AAAP, and ACLP.
