Susan L. Samson, MD, PhD, FRCPC, FACE, joined Mayo Clinic in Florida in 2020 and is the Chair of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Senior Associate Consultant for the Departments of Medicine and Neurologic Surgery. She also is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and trained in the Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center endocrinology fellowship program.She previously was a tenured Associate Professor of Medicine and Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine and was the Medical Director of the Baylor St. Luke’s Pituitary Center. She trained more than 60 Endocrinology fellows during her time as Associate and Program Director of the endocrinology fellowship. She was awarded the Fulbright and Jaworski L.L.P. Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching and Evaluation, the Rising Star Award, and Woman of Excellence Award at Baylor College of Medicine. She has served nationally as Council member and Secretary/Treasurer of the American Program Directors of Endocrinology and Metabolism and is a taskforce member for the ACGME (Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship Milestones 2.0) and ABIM (Self-Assessment Committee, Item Writing Task force, and now as the chair of the new Longitudinal Knowledge Assessment Approval Committee). Dr. Samson has served APDEM, Pituitary Society, Endocrine Society, and AACE on multiple Committees. She was elected to the AACE Board of Directors (2016-2020) and Executive Committee (Secretary 2020-2021, now Treasurer 2021-2023 and Interim President Elect 2022). She has led numerous AACE educational programs including the Annual Meeting as Vice Chair (Boston 2018) and Chair (Los Angeles 2019), and Endocrine University® 2019-2020 as Co-chair and EU for Year 1 2020 as Chair. Dr. Samson was a member of the 2020 Type 2 Diabetes Algorithm task force and is the Chair of the 2022 Type 2 Diabetes Algorithm taskforce.
