Bryan W. Karney is a professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Toronto (U of T). Professor Karney received his Masters in 1982 and his PhD in 1984 from the University of British Columbia (UBC). He has taught at the UBC, the University of Calgary and the U of T. Professor Karney specializes in hydraulics and hydrology and has a particular interest in unsteady fluid flows. He has written and presented many scientific papers relating to unsteady fluid flow in pipelines, channels and groundwater systems and has been part of editorial boards of scientific journals. Apart from academic activities, Professor Karney is the Founding Principal of HydraTek – a company founded in the late 1980s that provides specialized advice, services and training in applied hydraulics. Through his teaching, research and consulting, Dr. Karney has influenced many hydraulic engineers and decision makers around the world.
