Child abuse cases are among the most difficult cases to bring to a jury. Every case has its own unique set of hurdles to overcome. Whether the case involves multiple preschool-aged children, a victim who no longer wants to see the case move forward with prosecution, a victim who has recanted, or a victim who is too scared to testify, attorneys must be creative in utilizing their witnesses to help the jury reach a decision. This workshop will focus on identifying strategies and challenges faced during child sex abuse trials and how the forensic interviewers can be utilized as expert witnesses to overcome these challenges. Video recorded case examples, along with excerpts from forensic interviewer testimony, will be provided to highlight techniques utilized in trials that have proven to be successful.
