This case study will detail the investigation of the continuous sexual abuse of a girl by her stepfather with her mother’s knowledge. The victim was sexually abused and impregnated twice by her stepfather. Though she was intentionally isolated from family members she eventually outcried to her grandmother. The subsequent investigation included many forensic interviews and the identification of five victims. The stepfather had sexually assaulted his own children, his sister, and another relative's child. Both the stepfather and the mother were criminally charged, but the stepfather hung himself while in jail and the mother only received probation due to the victim’s refusal to testify against her. This case study will illustrate how a 'textbook' narcissist used fear and intimidation to exploit his victims. Attendees will learn the importance and value of working collaboratively with other entities, and how to utilize available resources to their advantage. Interview and interrogation techniques, charging decisions and collateral damage will be discussed.
