This session will focus on building awareness of the context and experiences of sexual and gender minority youth victims of violence, abuse, and exploitation, and will offer training participants strategies for conducting investigations and providing services and advocacy in a meaningful and culturally sensitive manner. In this session, we will examine the factors that place LGBTQIA+ youth at greater risk for maltreatment and barriers these youth may face following victimization and trauma. This session will offer training participants an opportunity to examine current practices and learn practical skills to increase improve responses and interview techniques for sexual and gender minority survivors of violence.

Participants will understand what puts LGBTQIA+ children and youth at greater risk for victimization.
Participants will discuss reasons why LGBTQIA+ children and youth may fail to disclose their victimization.
Participants will learn skills to improve their responses to children and youth who identify as LGBTQIA+.
