Dr. Michael Bailey’s graduate training was in Nonlinear Acoustics and his postdoctoral training was in Cavitation. His dissertation was titled “Control of Acoustic Cavitation with Application to Lithotripsy,” and invented the use of dual sources for shock wave lithotripsy (SWL). His primary appointment is as Senior Principal Engineer at the Applied Physics Laboratory, and he holds faculty appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Urology at the University of Washington. He is the Program Director of an NIH NIDDK P01 DK043881 that he joined in 1996.
