Learning Objectives:

Develop a progressive treatment algorithm for a neurogenic bladder patient with urinary retention
Determine when a neurogenic bladder patient needs to be screened and treated for chronic urinary infections.
Apply several treatment options for urinary incontinence in neurogenic bladder patients.
Identify when urodynamics can be utilized to better define a complex bladder physiology which can then lead to a more definitive treatment plan
Discuss long-term health risks withvoiding dysfunction patients regarding indwelling urinary catheters.
Manage overactive bladder (OAB) ,including refractory and neurogenic in complex patients.

Caring for the complex neurogenic bladder/voiding dysfunction patient can be very challenging. For many every day clinical scenarios, there are no "standard of care" pathways to use. As a result, clinicians learn how to treat these patients through discussion of case examples and debating the best care practices. This course will focus on discussing and debating common controversies in patient care regarding the diagnosis and treatment of neurogenic voiding dysfunction.

After attending this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify key management goals for refractory urinary incontinence, urinary retention and chronic urinary tract infections in neurogenic bladder patients.
- Discuss how specific tests, such as urodynamics, urinary analysis/culture and upper tract imaging, may or may not improve patient care in different scenarios.
- Understand risks and benefits of using intermittent catheterization, suprapubic tubes and surgical reconstruction to improve patient safety and/or quality of life.
- Develop a care plan for managing complex neurogenic bladder/voiding dysfunction patients and be able to explain the plan to patients.
