Instructor of Physics and Astronomy
Lane Community College and University of Oregon, Oregon, United States
Andrea is an instructor of physics and astronomy at Lane Community College and the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. She earned her PhD in physics (focusing on nano-optics) from the University of Oregon.
At LCC, Andrea and colleague Richard Wagner switched to OpenStax Astronomy and created a collection of interactive lecture slides, in-class activities, and projects to accompany the text. These are available now on OER Commons: https://www.oercommons.org/courseware/lesson/96705
Andrea is interested in continued improvements to introductory astronomy education. In particular, she is currently focused on the social-emotional aspects of learning, and especially interested in improving engagement and learning outcomes in minoritized students by helping them grow their self-efficacy and sense of belonging. She is also interested in exporing alternative assessments and working to build more clear and actionable learning goals for her courses. Please get in touch if you'd like to chat!
