Join fellow drawing enthusiasts for a day of on-location sketching through the heart of San Francisco’s urban plazas, streetscapes, and public art. Bring your favorite drawing and watercolor materials and comfortable walking shoes; accordion sketchbooks will be provided. Sketchbooks will be displayed at the ASLA EXPO.
• Explore the unique historical evolution of the urban plaza, streetscape design and spatial implications of public art in the urban fabric.
• Employ a variety of the best road-tested materials for observation and recording urban life. Pen, Ink and watercolor will be used for design explorations and capturing sense of place.
• Apply thumbnails, rapid sketching, simplified perspective, and other field techniques to quickly explore alternative compositions and to select a strong central sketch idea.
• Learn strategies for editing, composition, simplifying detail, and using color to make sketching less rigid and more accessible.
