My name is Debra Callender and I am a periOperative Registered Nurse who holds two certifications that represents excellence in practice. My initial certification is certified periOperative Registered Nurse (CNOR) and the second is Certified Surgical Service Manager (CSSM). I'm currently practicing in Florida and an active member of the Association of Operating Room where I am the President of AORN of Central Florida #1024.
I earned a Doctoral Degree (DNP) and a Master's of Science in Nursing Education at Walden University. I believe education, professional development, advocacy and patient safety in the perioperative setting are essential in achieving excellence in care. In my current role, I promote education, certification, excellence, safety in practice, reducing distractions, managing resources and improving patients' experience throughout their periOperative journey. The aforementioned contributes to excellence in patient care delivery.
I also hold membership in the National League of Nursing (NLN), the STTI Phi Nu Chapter, The National Society of Leadership and Success, and formerly CCI Champion in NYC at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). One of my vision is to encourage team cohesiveness in nursing and specifically among periOperative setting. I am the Chair of the AdventHealth Sebring Lavender Committee and the Vice-Chair of the DAISY committee. My vision is to always contribute to the success of those you encounter on your journey and help them grow. My ultimate passion is to keep growing periOp nurses to excel in their careers and represent my profession with pride.
