Jerry W. Blackwell is the founding partner of Blackwell Burke P.A. He serves as national and trial counsel for Fortune 500 companies, and has represented them in 47 states as well as outside the U.S. He has several recognitions, including being named multiple times a BTI Client Service All-Star, twice an MVP, Best Lawyers in America since 2010, Minnesota Attorney of the Year five times, recognitions for service in the National Bar Association, along with other public service recognition awards.
Mr. Blackwell served as a lead Special Assistant Attorney General in the successful prosecution of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. In 2020, in tandem with the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial Committee of Duluth, he was instrumental in securing the first posthumous pardon in Minnesota history for Max Mason, a Black traveling circus worker wrongfully convicted of raping a White woman in 1920. Three of his Black circus co-workers were lynched by a mob of 10,000 whites in Duluth, MN, for the fabricated rape charge.
When not dressed in a suit and lawyering, Mr. Blackwell can be found at his hobby farm, Peacehaven Farm, which is devoted to teaching life lessons to students through outdoor educational experiences. Mr. Blackwell and his bee yard are featured in the 2019 award winning children’s book, “Bee Love (Can Be Hard),” a fictional account written by former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice and Minnesota Vikings Hall of Famer Alan Page, and his daughter, Kamie Page, an educator.
