John Unice directs the business, strategic and overall operations of bit-x-bit, and services the company’s legal needs as well. At bit-x-bit, John draws on two decades of experience as corporate counsel and as a trial lawyer in corporate and law firm settings. Before joining bit-x-bit, John was Assistant Secretary and head of litigation at Covestro LLC. In those roles, he oversaw the legal affairs of Covestro's U.S.-based polycarbonate business and held global responsibility for the company’s litigation docket. He joined Covestro when it was spun off from Bayer Corporation, where he was senior litigation counsel responsible for managing litigation for Bayer's pharmaceutical, industrial chemical, and pesticide/herbicide subsidiaries. Prior to going in-house, John spent a decade in Jones Day's trial practice group.
John’s achievements also include:
* Sought-after speaker, sharing expertise on issues such as technology assisted review and eDiscovery, information governance, and the conflicts between U.S. discovery and corresponding laws of other countries.
* Past President of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Western Pennsylvania Chapter.
* Faculty member of the Electronic Discovery Institute.
* Frequent lecturer before bar associations, law schools and undergraduate institutions, regarding the intersection of technology and the law.
* John earned his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his B.A. in Leadership Studies from the University of Richmond.
* John is on the Board of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and has served on leadership committees and campaigns for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
