EDWARD T. STEWART
Edward Stewart is in his 16th season at the Big 12 Conference. Stewart’s responsibilities include sport management in football, oversight of the Big 12 football championship game and officiating program. Stewart has negotiated over $150 million in bowl game contracts, served on the College Football Officiating Board of Managers, College Football Officiating Competition Committee and the NCAA Football Rules Committee. Stewart also leads Conference sports wagering initiatives, and serves as the league liaison with medical professionals for student-athlete health and safety.
Stewart has twenty-five years of experience as an athletic administrator, beginning his career at Michigan State University as an academic advisor and the University of Missouri, as Associate Athletic Director for Administration, where he was the administrative liaison for the football program, supervised Olympic sports, student- athlete development, the institutions Nike equipment apparel contract and was instrumental in fundraising and university wide outreach initiatives.
A native of Chicago, Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Arts in Adult and Continuing Education from Michigan State University. The team captain of the 1994 Nebraska National Championship Football Team, Stewart was named the Big Eight Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was a Butkus Award finalist and a consensus All-America linebacker in 1994. Stewart played two years of professional football in NFL Europe and the NFL. In 2001, Stewart was named to the Nebraska Football All-Century team, and in 2004, was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
