Emerging Contaminants and Talc Litigation: What Are the Next Mass Toxic Torts?
Sunday, July 10, 2022
7:30 AM – 8:30 AM CEST
Location: Zurich 1-2
CLE: 1.0 Credit Hours
The most recent wave of mass tort litigation in the United States has focused on opioids, talc, PFOA, glyphosate, and other groundwater contaminants. This seminar will look at which chemicals and substances are being evaluated by U.S. and international regulators and agencies (e.g., FDA, EPA, IARC) and are therefore likely to soon be the focus of the plaintiffs’ bar.
Learning Objectives:
Gain an understanding that overregulation of ubiquitous and bio-cumulative substances presents risk of mass-tort exposure to virtually any industry.
Learn about some of the substances recently evaluated and/or currently under evaluation by U.S. and international regulators and agencies, including cosmetics and consumer products containing talc and benzene, PFAS, and other emerging contaminants.
Hear from experienced counsel about some best practices to mitigate the risk and prepare for potential litigation, including how to work with experts to assess the potential exposures and risks, to consider use of alternative methods and ingredients, and to engage with regulators and other constituents
