Interoperability of health information technology (HIT) is an essential aspect of patient care. In the health IT world, few topics draw more debate than how to achieve widespread interoperability, and the appropriate role of the government in doing so. Without interoperability, patient care and safety are endangered, costs increase, and the continued transition to a value-based system is undermined. The sharing of patients clinical and payment information across the healthcare ecosystem among providers, care teams, patients, and payors will continue to evolve with the 21st Century Cures Act. In this presentation we will discuss the government’s initial involvement in healthcare and how that role has progressed and expanded since the implementation of information technology.
Learning Objectives:
You will learn what interoperability is and how it works.
Discuss government's involvement in interoperability and how it has accelerated the timeline for implementation.
You will learn how this will assist in patient care moving forward.
