One of the greatest challenges senior care providers face today is attracting and retaining employees who are not merely satisfied but are engaged and invested in their work and the success of the organization.
In the fall of 2021, Care Providers of MN received a CMS-approved civil money penalty (CMP) grant to address the dire impact that extensive employee turnover has on resident care and quality of life in Minnesota skilled nursing facilities. This 2-year initiative fully funds a comprehensive employee engagement process, complete with evidence-based retention resources.
This session provides insight into how participating facility leaders are using a systematic process for creating and sustaining an engaging workplace through cycles of continuous quality improvement. Learners will be introduced to the components of a robust retention strategy that includes employee listening approaches, using data to make informed decisions, and leadership training for the people who have the greatest influence on employee engagement — managers and supervisors. The training uses an innovative, on-the-job learning process called microlearning that enables busy managers and supervisors to learn and apply engagement skills in the flow of their work. The strategy focuses on intentionally shaping and ultimately sustaining an engaging workplace culture by embedding the Core Values of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Criteria.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the components of an effective employee engagement and retention strategy.
Embed quality criteria from the Baldrige Leadership and Workforce categories to proactively improve the workplace experience of employees.
Establish a systematic approach to creating and sustaining a culture of engagement.
