Lighting is one of the most important, and all too often overlooked, elements in a building when it comes to providing support to residents and staff. Join LuAnn Thoma-Holec, Lisa Warnock, and Keith Stanton of Thoma-Holec Design as they dive deep into the “how-to’s” for best practices in providing supportive and beneficial lighting designs and systems for senior living communities. The presenters will discuss the important role that the reflectance values of finishes play in the design of lighting as well as in helping to provide support for those with low or impaired vision in all levels of care. Additionally, new technology in smart bulbs, tunable control systems, art lighting, integrated art technology, and smart home systems will be explored. In this minimally technological session, you will learn tips that are easy to implement in order to enhance the lighting systems in your own communities. Examples of well-executed lighting upgrades, IESNA lighting guidelines, reflectance of finishes best practices, and an overview of new technology options available in the marketplace will be shared.
