Personalized Medicine for Monogenetic Disease

Personalized medicine, or the use of genomic information to improve disease diagnosis and treatment outcome, is rapidly developing. Personalized medicine has the potential to vastly improve patient diagnosis, management, and information about the prognosis. The emphasis to-date in equine medicine has mostly been on monogenic or simply inherited diseases. As such, most of the available genetic tests are for these diseases. This session will provide an overview of personalized medicine and its future potential, before focusing on currently available genetic tests for the horse.
