A. Personal Statement
As a part of the MENTOR program through NCHPAD and the Lakeshore Foundation we’ve encountered important research questions to explore in order to improve the lives of those living with disabilities. Currently, in my position as a graduate research assistant, I am developing tools to disseminate evidence-based nutrition recommendations for persons with physical disabilities. Incorporating feedback from past programs helps us to improve our education and support mechanisms.

C. Contributions to Science
As a doctoral student my contributions to science are limited. As a member of the Dr. Plaisance and Dr. Goss labs I am involved in a substantial amount of studies. In the Dr. Plaisance lab we are currently investigating a ketone supplement on concussion outcomes. We also are involved in studies investigating a novel method to measure ketone utilization following a concussion. In the Dr. Goss lab, we are currently conducting a Scoping review on physical disabilities and nutrition interventions as well as a literature review on hyperglycolysis after stroke. I have a funded study investigating breath acetone production following a concussion and am applying that to multiple other disabilities and diseases.
